The President Calls Relatives of Shot National Guard Personnel to the White House
Former President Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Tragic Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their memory.
Presidential Call
The president said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president told the press. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”
Community Response
Attendees came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to support policing efforts in the capital.
Honoring Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators wished for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” the principal, the principal of her former high school, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to assist people.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
