The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last series concluded in 2021 with a finale that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived this week.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven will open with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of series six drew the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and the creative team said at the time there were no intentions for further series.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on this week that a new season is now in development.
