New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that reassures me, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD released video stills earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning about halfway between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate during the current season, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was projected as a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he attends every game. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
