Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
