Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.

The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Posted on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Recent Legal Issues

Rice missed the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.

On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
