Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Major Air Traffic Control Outage

A technical fault at the airport's ATC meant all flights could enter or leave the facility.

Passenger services have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport following a major technical issue at the control tower halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped after an systems problem that arose around 08:30.

Some passengers found themselves stranded in jets at the stand during the disruption.

Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, considerable delays are likely to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had previously estimated that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," the statement added.

Root of the Disruption

The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an systems failure with its ATC service provider.

Travelers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their trip before departing to the hub as knock-on effects are worked through.
