A Ton of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season
The winter break provide a plethora of activities much better than catching up on the headlines: opening presents, indulging in delicious food, and employing deep breathing to avoid snapping at relatives. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous noteworthy developments emerged during the break, and just in case you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)
Without a doubt the most surprising announcement, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter more episodes. Season 3 will come back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which might be a good sign. But, the key visual for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, nowadays, they are probably teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now the community is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Has a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been running for some time, and season 6 was yet another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio known for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Right after the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara.
